Spetec GmbH, which is headquartered in Erding, Germany, has improved its PU-Longlife solvent-resistant tubing material as part of its product portfolio for peristaltic pumps. The material is now significantly more supple than was previously the case and can therefore be used at considerably lower compression levels. This reduces wear at the pump and, above all, at the pump heads.

The material is an extremely durable thermoplastic polyether polyurethane (PU) with outstanding resistance to hydrolysis and an extended service life. When the tubing is used in peristaltic pumps, the expected service life is 500 operating hours (in permanent operation with distilled water at 33 RPM). This period may vary depending on the solvent, tubing diameter, compression, and other influencing factors. “PU-Longlife” tubing is particularly suitable for use with the following solvents: Alcohol, benzene, diesel, and kerosene. This opens up a whole range of new applications that considerably extend the possibilities available with the earlier tubing material.

The physical properties are summarized in Table 1 (click on right arrow in article image).

The manufactured tubing is sensitive to moisture and light and must therefore always be stored in its original packaging in a cool, dry place. It is particularly important that it is stored protected from light.

A table indicating the solvent resistance can be provided on request. Samples of the tubing can also be supplied to permit testing of resistance to the transported media.

Further information on use and the legal provisions can be found in the Technical Data Sheet.
