On October 23, 2020, Alfa Chemistry Catalysts, a specialized sub-brand of Alfa Chemistry, announced the release of bulk catalysts, which could be extensively used in industries like automotive, battery manufacturing, fuel cells, hydrogen storage, oil & gas, solar energy, water treatment, etc.

Catalysts typically speed up a reaction by reducing the activation energy or changing the reaction mechanism. “Common types of catalysts include enzymes, acid-base catalysts, and heterogeneous catalysts. Here at Alfa Chemistry, customers can easily find the exact catalysts they need from our varieties of collections,” explains a senior scientist from Alfa Chemistry Catalysts.

Catalysts find application across all industry segments, such as refinery, petrochemicals, chemicals, and foods. With the increased demand for green technologies, catalysts play a very significant role in petroleum refinery operations. Furthermore, key refinery processes such as cracking, hydro processing, and reforming, require the presence of catalysts.

Catalysts in Automobile
The automotive catalyst is used in the exhaust system of vehicles to control the emission of harmful gases, such as hydrocarbons, carbon oxides, nitrogen oxides, and other particulate matter, into the atmosphere. It helps convert harmful gases into less toxic gases such as nitrogen and carbon dioxide. Platinum, palladium, rhodium, and other rare and expensive metals are used as catalysts in automobiles, which increases the cost of the automotive catalyst.

Catalysts in Fuel Cells and Battery Manufacturing
Batteries and fuel cells are considered to be environmentally friendly devices for storage and production of electricity. The preparation of the feed for fuel cells (fuel) as well as the catalysts and the various conversion processes taking place in these devices needs to be more comprehensively researched.

Catalysts in Hydrogen Storage
Both homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts are used to optimize the performance of hydrogen storage.

Catalysts in Oil & Gas
Growth in energy demand drives the global oil & gas catalyst. The demand for catalyst at high temperatures in fluid catalytic crackers is increasing year by year. Recently, more has been devoted to the R&D activities to improve the overall quality of catalysts.

Catalysts in water treatment
Since conventional wastewater treatment plants, mainly based on biological processes, are poorly efficient for the treatment of toxic and/or non-biodegradable and/or highly concentrated effluents, new solutions are being looked for. Many different approaches have been investigated and catalytic processes may play a crucial role. Both oxidation and reduction processes for the treatment of chlorophenols have been explored by scientists and researchers.
