IRIS Technology Solutions SL, a Spanish manufacturer specialized in real-time process monitoring and control systems, presents the latest version of its Visum Palm AI-assisted portable NIR analyzer. This complements its Visum range of real-time process analyzers for the plastics and recycling industry.
The new Visum Palm is a fully portable, self-contained NIR analyzer that enables identification, verification, classification, and quantification analysis of plastic materials in powders, pellets, flakes, liquids, and solids in less than 3 seconds.
The analyzer offers an innovative and ergonomic design, as well as the possibility to perform analysis anytime, anywhere. Without having to connect it to any external electronic device such as a smartphone, tablet, or computer and without having access to the internet.
This is possible because it incorporates an embedded touch screen and computer, which allows all the routine functionalities of the device:
In addition, it is supplied with a stand, in case the user wants to work with the equipment as a desktop device instead of a handheld device.
The Visum Palm operates in the 900 to 1700 nm range, as this is the band that best combines availability of chemical information with price and technological maturity. It operates mainly in diffuse reflectance mode, for which it has specially designed and patented optics to extract as much information as possible from the sample.
In particular, it has a large illumination area (50 mm diameter) and a collection area of 10 mm which in practice means that it obtains more chemical information from each sample analyzed than an analyzer with a smaller illumination and acquisition area. For manufacturers working with powders, this feature is very relevant because of the heterogeneity and physical characteristics of the sample itself.
There are also different sample holders for working with powders, flakes, liquids or even for individual analysis of a 2×2 mm pellet. When working with large plastics, these are placed directly in the optical aperture of the analyzer.
Visum Palm includes a factory identification and verification library that includes 37 classes:
PMMA, PE, PC, PETG, EVA, PVC, PET, PU, PS, ABS, PA, PP, VIN, PLA, PBT, PMP, POMC, PPS, PVA, PPSU, EMA, PHBV, PAEK, PBAT, PBS, TPES, TPS, MABS, HIPS, MBS, SBC, PCL, PEEK, PHB, SAN, PI, PB.
In addition, it is supplied with a classification library for specific or complementary analysis of: PET/PETG/PLA.
The good news, besides that, is that it is included in the standard supply. The user can edit it, robust it with all the variability it may have from an existing class, or incorporate a new class through the Visum MasterTM software.
