The new capability integrates a molecular editor directly into Alfa Chemistry’s search platform. Users can draw chemical structures, modify atoms, bonds, rings, and stereochemistry, and then search for matching compounds without leaving the browser. The editor also supports importing existing molecular structures for searching.
Structure-based searching has long been a standard feature of professional chemical databases, particularly in medicinal chemistry, synthetic chemistry, and materials science. Researchers frequently encounter compounds in scientific publications and patents where only structural formulas are available, making conventional keyword or CAS number searches less practical.
